PRESERVATION, RESTORATION

174 WEST 72ND STREET, NEW YORK, NY

Built between 1886-1888 to the designs of Arthur Bates Jennings, this five-story rowhouse is home to commercial businesses at the first two floors and residential units above. The main facade is Romanesque Revival in style, and is constructed of limestone with arched windows, carved detailing. The building has a pitched slate mansard roof. The facade at the first two floors appears to have previously been altered by the addition of brick masonry cladding and a pressed metal shingle roof.

Our project consists of an exterior restoration of the street elevation and roof replacement at the main roof. Facade work includes localized stone repair and rebuilding, wood window restoration, aluminum window replacement, slate roof replacement, metal shingle roof replacement, masonry repairs, waterproofing, new cresting, parapet reconstruction, and new perimeter railing. The roof replacement includes replacing the existing roof with a new insulated resin-based roof assembly, replacing deteriorated skylights, and removing any defunct roof openings.
