117 West 79th Street, formerly known as the Park 79 hotel, holds a significant place in the Central Park West Historic District of New York's Upper West Side. This seven-story Renaissance Revival building, designed by Neville & Bagge and constructed in 1898-1899, stands as a testament to the architectural heritage of the area. With the building now under the ownership of Fairstead and in collaboration with social services partner Project FIND, this exciting transformation has created 77 deeply affordable residences exclusively for seniors.

CTA is proud to be part of this project, responsible for the sensitive restoration of the building's exterior architectural features, which are characteristic of a landmarked historic district. Our scope of work included meticulous masonry repair, replacement of deteriorated lintels and sills, installation of new furred stucco to ensure a seamless finish, and the addition of new exterior doors at the ground level to enhance accessibility and functionality. To honor the building's historical context, we also installed a new metal cornice that complements the overall architectural aesthetic.

Through the collaboration between Fairstead, Project FIND, and CTA Architects, the transformation of 117 West 79th Street provides high-quality, deeply affordable residences tailored specifically to meet the needs of seniors. This project not only demonstrates a commitment to preserving the historic fabric of the neighborhood but also reflects a dedication to creating inclusive and sustainable communities that foster a sense of belonging and well-being.
