EXTERIOR RESTORATION & FACADE REPLACEMENT

35 EAST 85TH STREET, NEW YORK, NY

Westminster House, ca. 1958, is a two-tower twenty-one story concrete structure apartment building with white glazed brick cavity wall facades.

The scope of work involved the removal of all exterior masonry including all setbacks and returns, and the installation of continuous backup support. Removal and replacement of steel shelf angles throughout. Installation of a new red brick curtain wall with cast stone water tables and a cast stone base. The client's requirement for a facade that blends the economic benefits of modern technology with the more traditional elements of prewar detailing was realized. The result was an elegant blending of what was a postwar modern building with other prewar buildings in the neighborhood.
