EXTERIOR PRESERVATION

65 UNIVERSITY PLACE
NEW YORK, NY

Type:

1903 brick and limestone hotel designed by Buchman & Fox Architects, with structural steel frame, presenting an ornate original copper mansard roof and extensive limestone ornament, including water tables, window surrounds and false balconies. The building was converted in the early 1980s to a cooperative apartment building, joined with three adjacent buildings.

Scope:

Ongoing leakage of the deteriorated original batten seamed copper mansard roof at the former Albert Hotel mandated its replacement. The existing roof was removed in its entirety, including the curved copper roofing at the stone dormers and was replaced with a combination of stock and custom copper elements.
